I installed Overwatch so I could look at all the cool art and new shit, but I haven't - in the manner of a dope emcee - gone hard. Because we must always be maximally opposite at all times, he is joining some back-alley offshoot of the old Overwatch League. At least, I assume. Certainly he's playing enough to experience the fluttering ups and downs of the backend - occasionally being catapulted into strange bliss. Certainly, voice chat was already off. That's the default. But occasionally, wicked men attack with words - the last refuge of the scoundrel. As I know only too well.
Mork was quitting ARC Raiders anyway, but the process was vastly accelerated by, well, the kind of experiences you can have in ARC Raiders. I had already quit by this time, and there was no way to duo queue without making yourself a refreshing cooler full of Capri Sun for the most dangerous, immoral men on Earth. He had one of those rounds that culminates in immediate uninstallation: what the electrosages call "cyber-death."
As a direct result, he loves everything about Marathon except the genre. I mean, bounced off in minutes. Super hardcore Destiny lifer type guy, simply can't follow them here. It's sad but if his favorite band started making tricycles he might not be on board with those either.
The most insane dreams of my adult life were the result of looking at this art style for a few hours. I love everything about how this game looks. And sounds. The story nibblins were savory for real. I'm gonna need to git gud if I wanna hang, but this game is mean as fuck. Enemy robots are VERY nasty, incentivization to cooperate is low, mechanical inducements toward murder are high, and exfiltration tends to be quite exposed. It's vicious, but I won't deny the lure of a girlfriend who's a little mean.
I think about this post from Bungie's Comms Manager a lot. Fresh Content for Destiny 2 got pushed big time, and this was his response:
Cannot apologize enough for the delay here. Team's still jamming. Hope to have some comms out soon.

Please continue to yell at me directly, and I say this without any sarcasm.
They're focused on our immediate and long term future.
I am happy to take 100% of the blame here in…
Well, the only way to interpret that really is that those people aren't working on Destiny 2 at all and instead they are working on Marathon. ARC Raiders found mainstream success by putting the biggest frictions of the genre into a wind tunnel. Marathon has no aspirations toward being friendly that I can discern. You have to be this tall to ride this ride. I think it's really cool, but this is meth. Sony was already stripping the place for parts. Going all in on this is like rolling a die, but the die is really, really big and full of unsecured human beings.
(CW)TB out.
